If I am careful with my activities why should I be concerned with environmental contamination?

Areas of contaminated soil, usually resulting from past fuel spills, have sometimes been found during airport construction activities. Contaminated sediment must be removed and properly disposed of in accordance with environmental regulations.

What should I do if I suspect environmental contamination?

If the contamination is suspected, contact the MAA Environmental Compliance Division at 410-859-7448. Environmental Compliance will evaluate the need for further investigation or sampling and provide advice and assistance to ensure that the contaminated soil is removed so that your work can proceed.

If there are strong fumes or vapors that could be dangerous vacate the area and contact:

Fire and Rescue Department at BWI Airport by calling 9-1-1.

or

Maryland Air National Guard Fire Department at Martin State Airport at 911.
