Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport has developed and implemented an Environmental Management System (EMS) to reinforce environmental programs. The EMS outlines a series of guidelines, policies, procedures and processes that address environmental impacts in day-to-day business activities.

The Maryland Aviation Administration, which operates the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall and Martin State Airports, is committed to the betterment of our planet, our people, our community and our economic growth. This commitment is to sustain growth while practicing proactive environmental risk management, pollution control, continuous improvement in environmental performance, and effective communication with employees and stakeholders.
The Office of Environmental Compliance and Sustainability (OECS)
The Office of Environmental Compliance and Sustainability (OECS) drives improvements in environmental performance, champions sustainability for MAA and ensures environmental compliance for operations and activities at BWI Marshall and Martin State Airports. OECS is responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of programs and tools that protect the environment, promote pollution prevention, reduce risks associated with compliance violations, and address airport noise related concerns of our neighbors and community stakeholders. OECS also oversees the development and implementation of sustainability programs that ensure continual improvements in MAA’s operations, activities, resource use, and business practices.
